Update: Sustainable Food Policy Board

Sustainable Food Policy Board

The 2009 season of the Sustainable Food Policy Board is wrapping up. I ain’t going to lie to you. With all the procedural etiquette, these meetings tend to drag at times. But, their heart is in the right place. To stay organized, they have three standing committees. Food Production and Business Committee: Identify issues, research and make policy recommendations related to SFPB’s mission and charges relating to food production and the local economy. Food Access and Wellness Committee: Identify issues, research and make policy recommendations related to SFPB’s mission and charges relating to food access and wellness. Executive Committee: Review meeting agendas, plan and manage SFPB activities.

Currently the Board is working on examining the feasibility of affordable access to water through new water and wastewater rates and other measures for urban farming. They will report to the Austin City Council on or before January 7, 2010.

Want to lend your voice? At each meeting, time is allotted for Citizen Communications. A speaker, signed up prior to the meeting being called to order, will be allowed to vent for three minutes about items posted or not posted on the agenda. Batter up.
