UPDATE: Farmers Market Finds

Dai Due Biscuit

Good past weekend at the farmers’ markets. Downtown on Saturday, we hit up the fine people at Dai Due. We had a Buttermilk Biscuit with fresh, tangy butter and Mayhaw jelly ($3.50). The Mayhaw, also known as “Swamp Plum”, was made into jelly by Harvest Time Farm Stand (also at the market). I had not heard of Mayhaw before and upon further research, learned this: it’s wicked good! (That last bit got quite technical.) Truth be told, I also had a Bratwurst. OK, two.

Elevated Artisanal Fresh Butter

Elevated Artisanal Foods has Fresh Butter ($6). Rich and creamy, made in Austin. They are sourcing milk from north of town for their next batch. Besides butter and killer soup, they have a Garlic Confit ($6). The garlic is poached in lard. If only the container was large enough for me to swim in.

  1. Mahaw jelly is good, my grandmother used to make it. I’ve tried the one from the farmer’s market and it’s good. I’ve seen it in stores on rare accounts but it’s never as good as homemade.

We were lucky enough to get some Elevated butter too, which was great. Thanks for turning us on to Elevated, their soups were great.
