Saturday Night Special

One of the best meals being served Saturday night in Austin wasn’t at a restaurant. We were hosted by the gracious Carla Crownover for dinner. You might know her from the self imposed ‘No Grocery Store for 2010’ challenge she kicked off 150 days ago. True to her credo, everything was local: Grilled Bison with Roasted Potatoes and Hopelessly Blue Cream Sauce, a Tomato Basil Parmesan Gratin and fresh, baby Arugula with a light dice of Lemon Confit.

These spuds were so sweet on their own, we almost didn’t do a thing to them. We simply pan-fried them with olive oil, salt and pepper. Which made them crispy on the outside and fluffy on inside.

The other side was a baked Panzanella, a mix of diced tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil, croutons and Parmesan from Brazos Valley. Every damn thing (except the cheese) was purchased at the farmers’ market-even the cream (Way Back When Dairy)! This meal rocketed way up into my top 10 on my 2010 list.
