Tomato Massacre

IMG_7836

If you add the last few weeks up, it has been a total of 2200 degrees outside. My tomatoes finally gave up the ghost. There are still some small ones on the vine, but will no doubt be poached by some no-account squirrel (furry, small, heartless bastard). I can’t believe they appreciate the subtle delicacy of the Roma tomato. I mean, if they had squirreled away (sorry) some mayo, bacon and bread, that would be a different story. But, they are basically rocking it hobo style: gnaw on half and moving on. What’s a suburban Austin farmer to do?
