Dried Herbs

Dried Herbs

Summer is here. Everything is growing, including the herbs. We have oregano planted as ground cover around the house. It grows thick, at a height around a foot. It looks great and keeps the weeds down. As an added bonus, you can eat it! We do the same with parsley, thyme and basil. No more running to the store for that pinch of herbs you need for your main course masterpiece. Even my neighbors have taken an interest in my edible landscape. I have caught some of them lurking around the side yard. (This is not an infomercial to raid my yard, plant your own!) For use in the kitchen, I cut the oregano, tie the ends together with a string and hang it for a few days till dry. Strip the leaves off with your finger tips over a sheet pan to catch your bounty. $2.99 for a couple sprigs of basil at the store? Forget about it. Plant your own.
