Stock Up on Cookbooks

Texas Book Festival 2009

This is a great event and it happens at the perfect time of year (weather wise). If you haven’t been before, this event was started by Laura Bush in 1996 to benefit the state’s public libraries. Large tents are set up around the capitol grounds. Each has a specific book category. Great cookbook tent. Thousands of titles, authors on hand and live cooking demos. Spatulas will fly!

Top reasons you should go: It’s free, books are an ancient and cool form of communication, lay on the capitol grass and wonder aloud what the hell happened to the Governor’s mansion. Check out the full schedule here (scroll down to Cooking Tent). Here are my favorites: Rebecca Rather, Lidia Bastianich and Recipes from Austin City Limits.
