The Allandale Village HEB grocery store is set to expand. Leslie Locket, HEB’s Director of Public Affairs, outlined the changes on Friday. Kids n Kats, Jackson Hewitt and Blockbuster Video are getting the boot so the grocer can add 16,000 additional square feet to their store, bringing the size up to 68,000. That’s a lot of Hot Pockets! Construction is set to start on January 4th, 2009. Work will be conducted during the day, 7am – 7pm. That’s good for me. The last thing I need is more noise at that intersection at night. Every Tuesday at 4am I get woken up by their dumpsters being emptied. They estimate a completion date sometime in September of 2010. What does all that new real estate get us? Increased seafood and organic vegetable departments are the highlights. Also, I hope, a dramatic face lift. It’s one of the grimiest HEBs in town.
