Olivia will be open for lunch service on Fridays and Saturdays starting on February 19th. Just two days? I guess they are just testing the waters. No matter, I’ll take what I can get.
El Arbol Set To Open
Ignore that Keep Out sign. I’m excited about this place. You have probably noticed construction of the historic, post-war building near 35th Street and Jefferson. This former residence has been going through a transformation. A long one. And, it looks like the butterfly is about to emerge. Booths are in, gas lines are connected, walk-ins are on. El Arbol is about to open and aims to set the standard for Argentinean cuisine in Austin.
The Wok Got Torched
Hot off the heels of their recent opening at 301 William Cannon, Torchy is turning his sights to SoBur (Burnet Rd.). What once was the location of Wok N Roll is soon to be the latest Torchy’s Tacos outlet. Damn! These guys are like the Huns! One day sitting quietly in their trailer in 78704, now they are everywhere slapping the snot out of the Austin taco scene.
UPDATE: Changes At Fonda San Miguel
Well, that was quick. After years at Jeffrey’s, Chef Alma Alcocer-Thomas’ switch to Fonda San Miguel only lasted months. Original partner and Chef Miguel Ravago is back from Spain and in the kitchen until further notice. Sometimes it seems that the only thing constant in restaurant kitchens is change.
