Grandmothers Rule

It was just my birthday. I know… you forgot again. No big, my Grandmother didn’t! Grandmothers are cool like that. This year, she went over the top: creme burlee torch (yes!), Central Market gift card (O’ya!), mango peeler/corer (what?!?). You’re right, you’re right. Mangoes don’t get enough quality time in my kitchen.

This is how the gift card was spent: Beef tenderloin, scalloped potatoes with mushrooms and port wine sauce. I get the potatoes going first, because they take the longest. Read more with the link below…090925_0243

Thinly sliced Yukon Gold potatoes with a sprinkling of Parmesan and a splash of cream between each layer. I goofed on the salt. It also needed salt. But, it turned out pretty good anyway. And like they say on TV, “a hour later, this is what it looks like”. Keep everyone away from this dish before dinner or they will start eating it. Unless they are Irish, then there is nothing possible you can do.

Then, the easy part. Tenderloin. Salt. Pepper. Nothing else. Reduced beef stock with a little Port wine mixed in. I love it when a plan comes together. Thanks, Grandma.
