Second Half of the Season

Peppers

We are finally here. The backside of Summer. Another chance to grow something to eat in our yards. (It’s also the best time to plant new trees and shrubs.) Travis County Master Gardner recommends October planting of Arugula, Broccoli, Cabbage, Collard, Carrot, Lettuce, Spinach, Beet, Chard and Strawberry. Wow! I don’t know if I have that much land. We do have a few things going. The peppers have been in for a while and are showing promise.

Tomato

The Roma Tomatoes turned out to be scrappers. I never got around to pulling up the plants from earlier this year and they have taken it upon themselves to fruit again. And, I was pretty sure they were determinate seed (fruits all at once).

Peas

The peas are also coming up nicely. The Master Gardener Association has more information about what you can be doing, month by month, in the garden. You can pick up their guide at your favorite nursery.
