Awards Season at the Beard House

This just in! Semifinalists announced for the James Beard Foundation Awards. This also just in! “Hey, Beard! You missed a bunch of other outstanding Austin Restaurants!”

Best New Restaurant: La Condesa
Outstanding Pastry Chef: Philip Speer, Uchi
Best Chef Southwest: Tyson Cole, Uchi

I am definitely on board with the nominees listed above. I will be posting a review soon for La Condesa (sneak preview: I’m a fan). Olivia has also been invited to cook at the Beard House on April 1st. A honor in itself. They are heading up there with Loncito Cartwright of Loncito’s Lamb and the crew from Thunderheart Bison. A little bit of the ATX in NYC.

  1. So excited for the nominations! I’ll give you a few of La Condesa musts: Tacos de Cochinita Pibil (as good as if you were in Yucatan), the pomegranate Guacamole is my fave, Hamachi Ceviche, and Costillas de Puerco with the guava glaze. You will love it! Don’t leave without eating dessert. This is the real thing. Interior Mexican food with a nouveau mindset…trust me, I’m from Guanajuato.
