A Tale of Two Captures

This was the beginning of what was going to be a glorious day grilling in my backyard (Hot Italian Sausage, Peppers and Onions with Fireman’s Four Mustard). Birds chirping, coals crackling, camera clicking. Clicking, thumping, cur-thumpling.

The pictures above are from a perfectly functioning Canon 5D (lowly MK 1), before the wheels came off. Or more to the point, the mirror came off. Backup? The Apple iPhone 4. Not a hero, but not the enemy. The photo below was taken with it. The two above were taken with the 5D.

I have only met Steve Jobs once.  It was during my cotillion dance (pictures deleted). He was a chaperon and I was a timid, blushing…it was a long time ago. If I bumped into him again, I would say “nice camera phone, but it’s no replacement for the real deal.” Moral of this story is “life isn’t all megapixels.” It’s more like, “megapixels get chicks, but wicked sharp optics, predictable camera body actions and balanced exposure yields superior image capture.”
