Breakfast Emerges as Hunger Champion

A powerful force in the war to end morning hunger, “breakfast” seems to be gaining momentum as the meal of choice for eaters in the A.M. The first choice is which eggs to use. We are big fans of both Milagro Farm and Smith & Smith.

I’m proud to know that I’m the first one to think of this pairing: Eggs and Beans. I don’t know what to say, it just came to me. The spicy black beans are a perfect foil to the creamy scrambled eggs. I seasoned the black beans with Cumin, Chili Powder and Salsa, then pureed till smooth.

Jacques Pepin describes the process of cooking scrambled eggs as forming”curdles”. Jacques is a Yoda of the cooking world. And, anyone who bangs down shots of Dry Vermouth with Julia Child before 9 AM is a friend of mine, but let’s be reasonable. Curdling is a  sport performed on ice with brooms and a bowling ball. Very little to do with cooking my friend.

This is my new favorite: El Diablo Sauce. 50% Red Pepper flakes, 50% Canola Oil. 100% Perfect on Anything. Not just heat, it actually has some subtle undertones of lava and brimstone.

  1. Hmmm. I’m trying to figure out that diablo sauce. Is it blended or does the oil just turn red from the chilis? No salt or vinegar or anything. Double-hmmm. Where did you get that idea?

  2. Diablo Sauce:….need the recipe…i’m worried i will just make spicy mayo like sauce?….

  3. You are too funny. Curdling. Noticed my eggs were absent from the kudos. Hmph. You are so SOL.
