Look at these monsters. These Daikon radishes, from Winfield Farm, were maybe 18″ long ($4 each). Govinda alerted me to the fact that Daikon’s are a milder radish, with a more aggressive tasting leaf. I need to come up with a recipe to try these.

Update: Farmers Markets
Just because it’s cold out, that doesn’t mean the farmers’ markets aren’t jumping. Roberto and Ross of San Miguel Seafood at the Austin Farmers’ Market Downtown have Albacore Tuna from the gulf. It’s a white flesh tuna that we don’t see too often ($16/lb). Also, Flounder is back in ($12/lb). I love me some Gulf seafood!
Dai Due Supper Club: Seafood at The Plant
The start and the finish. That is what I have been thinking about. Raw oysters to Fish soup. Bookends to an exceptional meal. I predicted the Dai Due Seafood dinner was going to be special, but it exceeded my expectations. Jesse, Tamara and the rest of the Dai Due crew treated us to a memorable evening.
Allandale HEB Loosens Its Belt
The Allandale Village HEB grocery store is set to expand. Leslie Locket, HEB’s Director of Public Affairs, outlined the changes last week. Kids n Kats, Jackson Hewitt and Blockbuster Video are getting the boot so the grocer can add 16,000 additional square feet to their store, bringing the size up to 68,000.
Dover Sole on the Rocks
This dish has been declared the new best fish dish at my casa. It’s dead simple, too. Literally, if you can to spill some wine into a pan, you can make this dish. I have seen you drink, so I’m pretty sure you can pull this off.
Catch and Relief
I usually don’t like words like “limit”. Makes me feel like less of a man. But, in this case I am on board. It seems that the regulations put in place to help sustain the Texas gulf fish populations are doing their job.
