Do you ever get hungry? Every want to hang our with like-minded foodies and participate in a good cause? Yahtzee! Slow Food Texas Artisan Showcase this Saturday.

Slow Food Austin supports activities and education to preserve biodiversity in the food supply, spread the education of taste and connect producers of excellent foods with consumers through events and initiatives.

This Saturday’s event will have a whos-who of our local favorites: (512) Brweing, Tipsy Texan, Fino, Zhi Tea, Owl Tree Roasting, Pure Luck, Antonelli’s Cheese Shop, Thunderheart Bison, Boggy Creek Farm, Green Gate Farms, Kocurek Family Charcuterie. To cap-0ff the event, Jesse from Dai Due will break down a half hog from Richardson Farms and the resulting cuts will be auctioned off. Yahtzee indeed.

Up for messing with some chickens? Head over to Boggy Creek for this months Slow Food Happy Hour. Beverages provided by The Tipsy Texan and Bill Norris of FINO. Farm snacks artfully prepared by Chef Jesse Bloom of Estatic Cuisine. $10 (or more if you are so moved) donation to Austin Slow Food. Visit with your friends, walk the farm, and visit the Hen House! A random act of violence from Mother Nature brought the Barr Mansion ballroom to the ground this week.

The fire that happened early morning of June 9, 2010 was contained to the Ballroom structure and has not touched the Mansion or its grounds. We are doing everything possible to ensure our clients’ upcoming events are just as memorable and beautiful as originally planned. Engineers are presently on site to determine what remains can be salvaged and are already designing and securing a new barn structure. Additionally crews are on the grounds clearing debris and ensuring that the landscape is aesthetically pleasing. We are also currently constructing a fully functional structure complete with flooring, air-conditioning, fabric draping and professional lighting that will serve in lieu of the Ballroom during the construction process. All previously planned events for this weekend will go on as intended.

I am proud to have visited the Ballroom structure many times for special events. It will live on in my memory as a unique space and though I am sad, I know that Barr Mansion will build a structure its equal. I wish the best of luck to Barr Mansion. I look forward to many more celebrations.
